Lasix Ban? HISA Has a Vote—But No Aftercare Plan

Repole Stables owner and National Thoroughbred Alliance (NTA) founder Mike Repole, NTA Executive Director Pat Cummings, and Westlake Racing Stable owner Louis Masry have exposed a troubling reality: Thoroughbred racing leadership is falling short on aftercare funding. Their findings raise serious questions about funding tied to the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA), transparency, and whether a small group of leaders is influencing both policy and the flow of money. With HISA’s Lasix ban vote approaching, one question remains: what happens to the horses if the ban is enacted?

Where is Whitmore?

One thing is for certain, and that is that Whitmore's health is paramount to any pre-determined schedule; Ron Moquett lets Whitmore dictate the plan, ultimately. He wants a healthy racehorse for years to come, and then he wants a healthy track pony following his retirement as a racehorse. So, while he may not be in Saturday's Forego Stakes (G1) starting gate, it's not out of the question to think he could possibly return to it in 2020, and even possibly beyond that. Moquett is playing the long game, and the sport is better for it.
