Our Mission: To rescue racehorses of all breeds who have fallen through the cracks and landed in the pipeline to slaughter after their second careers have proven unfit, and find them their third career where they can continue to be riding horses or pasture companions, with a focus on finding placement for them in therapeutic riding programs for disabled veterans or incarcerated or troubled youth and adults.
Three Cheers For Third Careers utilizes social media networks to facilitate, in part or wholly, the fundraising for the "bail", shipping and quarantine costs, and re-homing of horses located in feedlots across the country who are bound for slaughter.
We rescued our first horse, Sunny Defrere, since renamed Banzai, on January 10, 2013. He will spend the rest of his life in our care as our ambassador and inspiration for the work we do. Banzai is a Japanese cheer meaning "long life" that is traditionally repeated three times to express enthusiasm and to celebrate a victory and favor; hence, our name, Three Cheers For Third Careers.
Our Georgia facility provides care for those horses who need time to be rehabilitated and/or retrained before their transition into their new "career". We also offer accommodations for those assisting in the long-distance transport of horses rescued from known killer buyer auctions.
BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!
